A Beauty No Foot Will Ever Touch: An Unbuilt Architecture Poem
An architect facing a student's graduation project meets a form that can never be built and turns the question on his own career.

Imad wrote this unbuilt architecture poem after a student showed him a graduation project that could never be built, the kind of perfection that artificial intelligence now makes easy. The speaker, an architect who teaches, hears his own younger voice in the student and asks who is the real builder: the student who let the form run free, or the teacher who trimmed his ideas to fit the world.
ARCHITECTURE OF THE UNREACHABLE
THE BUILDING THAT REFUSED TO BE BUILT
WHEN BEAUTY DOES NOT DESCEND
THE LAST UNBUILT DREAM
WHAT WE LOST WHEN WE BUILT
It was not a graduation project… it was a confrontation with myself
I stood before a form that cannot be built… yet it shattered my certainty
I did not understand it with my mind… it inhabited me before I resisted
My senses ignited… and I allowed them to burn
Then I realized suddenly… this beauty will never touch the ground
I felt something like anger… then sorrow… then something more dangerous
I felt an envy I do not confess…
yet I know it well
Like one who sees his dream being built… but not by his hands
I looked at the student… and I no longer heard his words
I was hearing an older voice… my own… before I learned compromise
And I asked myself in painful silence… which of us is truly building
Him… who released beauty without
fear
Or me… who tamed it until reality accepted it
We do not build as we think… we negotiate with imagination
We cut its wings… and call it wisdom
Every building we executed…
was the shadow of a dream that lost its battle
But artificial intelligence… did not create this wound
It merely exposed it… with a clarity we
could not bear
It made perfection easy… and reality became the incapable one
But is the easy more beautiful… or the difficult more truthful
Is what cannot be built greater… or what lives among people
I left the room… unsure whether I was teaching
Or apologizing… for a path I took and never forgave myself for
I feared I had called compromise maturity
And feared more… that I had believed it
But the truth I cannot escape…
Is that something in me… has not died yet
That is why I hurt… that is why I saw
And that is why I knew… that true beauty
Is not only what gets built…
But what refuses to be forgotten
So do not reconcile between what you dream… and what is imposed on you
So do not soften your vision…
to please a fragile reality
So do not call compromise wisdom… nor breaking maturity
So do not convince yourself that what gets built is always worthy
So do not silence that old voice… that knew you before you changed
So do not trade your first
wonder… for a tired confidence you learned
So do not believe that the only path… is the one everyone took
So do not close the door of the impossible… just because it has not opened yet
So do not extinguish the dream within… just to light a lamp outside
So do not forget… that all you lived… was not the end
So do not step back now… when you see the truth this clearly
So do not betray yourself… in the name of the world
