The Last Court of Mirrors

He came to judge a whole people and was seated first among the accused.

A courtroom of mirrors reflecting a single man, the image behind this poem about judging others

This poem about judging others begins on the night Imad sets out to judge a whole people and finds the judge pointing at him. In a court without flags, a wolf guards a lost puppy and not every lion is brave, because creation refuses generalization, and a mirror reflects his own words back at him. Reform, the poem concludes, begins with oneself.

The night I decided to judge a nation... I found the judge staring at me.

He said, "Sit down... you are the first defendant."

I replied, "But I came as a witness."

He smiled. "Everyone who hands out verdicts before searching their own heart arrives as a witness and leaves as the accused."

Then the gates of the earth opened...

All nations entered, without flags, passports, or anthems.

There was no Syrian, no German, no Turk, no Egyptian.

There was only one thing left...

A human being... struggling to overcome his own shadow.

I saw a wolf guarding a lost puppy.

I saw a dove stealing a grain from another dove.

I saw a horse die standing...

And a donkey carrying the weight of an entire city without complaint.

Even the chickens were not all cowards...

Nor were all ducks gentle...

Nor were all lions brave.

Creation itself rejects generalization...

Except the human being when anger takes over.

Then a mirror walked toward me.

It did not reflect my face.

It reflected my words.

Every word I had thrown at others...

Returned to me like an arrow that knew its way home.

Then I understood...

Nations do not collapse merely because corruption exists.

They collapse when corruption becomes the definition of an entire people.

Noise is never proof of a majority.

An earthquake lasts only moments...

Mountains take thousands of years to be born.

Do not let the screams of a few become the history of millions.

My friend...

If you wish to know why nations fall...

Do not ask the streets.

Do not ask the screens.

Do not ask social media.

Stand before the mirror...

It is the only nation that never lies.

That is where every revolution begins.

That is where every reform begins.

Not by condemning peoples...

But by awakening the human being who lives within each one of us.

History does not immortalize those who accuse the most...

It remembers those who reformed themselves before trying to reform the world..
