Provision Comes from Where We Least Expect

A young man without a ticket never noticed the star beside him; he was counting his breaths, and God sent his provision anyway.

A young man on a train looking out at passing cities, the scene of this poem about rizq

This poem about rizq tells of a young Indian man on a train crossing cities, without a single euro or any papers, who sat beside the actress Maisie Williams without knowing who she was. He was watching for the ticket inspector. Days later work, safety and a new homeland reached him, and Imad reads it as provision arriving from where no one expects.

On a train crossing cities.

Sat a young Indian man.

With restless eyes.

And a heart outrunning his steps.

He owned not a single euro.

Nor papers opening any door.

Beside him sat a star.

Known by millions.

Yet to him.

She was only another passenger.

He never saw her face.

He only saw the inspector.

He saw the missing ticket.

He saw tomorrow's fear.

Days later.

A journalist asked in amazement.

Did you know who she was?

It was Maisie Williams.

He smiled quietly.

And answered softly.

My only concern.

Was reaching the next station.

To remain on the train.

To find a tomorrow.

Where fear would not chase me.

For a hungry soul.

Does not look at stars.

But to the nearest loaf.

And the frightened.

Does not count celebrities.

He counts his breaths.

Then the unexpected happened.

Provision came.

Not from the train.

Nor from the star.

But from God.

A dignified job arrived.

Security arrived.

A new homeland arrived.

Thus he learned.

That provision.

Knows no borders.

Needs no papers.

Nor permission from doors.

O son of Adam.

Do not despair.

The darkest road.

May hide a dawn.

An empty pocket.

Is not the end of the story.

For God opens.

When every road is closed.

And sends provision.

From where we least expect.
