The Museum That Arrived Before Time: Museum of the Future
Imad walks into Dubai's Museum of the Future and finds a building that reads its visitor before the visitor sees it.

Imad wrote this prose poem on the Dubai Museum of the Future, the ring-shaped building whose metal skin carries letters that, in his reading, are lived rather than read. Inside he finds no clear inside, floors and elevators that seem to rearrange the visitor, and a museum that may exhibit our fear of the future as much as the future itself.
In Dubai, where sand is written like prophecy
Stood a structure unlike anything around it
It was not born of need… but of a
question
In a year that was not a number but a declaration
Time itself bent to make way for it
It rose like a ring that never closes
It was not a building… but a rupture in the present
Through which the future passes without permission
And into which thoughts fall before being conceived
Who designed it?
It is said human hands drew its lines
But the wind corrected their paths
And light refused closed angles
Its surface is not a wall… but a written question
Letters that bleed meaning, not read but lived
As if language itself migrated into metal
And inside… there is no inside
But a space that devours boundaries
You walk… not knowing if you ascend or descend
You circle… but never return to the same point
The elevators do not move you
… they rearrange you
The floors do not carry you… they
think about you
The walls do not enclose… they
observe your silence
Here, the human is no longer a visitor
But an experiment tested within
architecture
As if the building reads you… before you see it
At night, its form dissolves
Becoming an idea suspended in darkness
By day, it shines like a cosmic confession
Someone said: this is a museum
But what is exhibited here?
The future? Or our fear of it?
Another said: this is an architectural
achievement
But the real achievement… is that it broke definition
The building is no longer a function
… but a state
At some point, you will realize the truth
That you never entered the building
It is the one that entered you
And so, this museum never closes its doors
Because it has none to begin with
It is open… like a question
And extended… like time that has not
yet begun
More epics on this subject are in the library's Buildings & Cities collection, and more essays in the journal's Buildings & Cities section.
