This Cooperstown poem records a visit to the town where Imad arrived expecting streets and found a question that had been waiting for him. Windows watch, the lake reflects the soul instead of the sky, every bench remembers someone absent, and the town asks its visitor who he has become; when he leaves, he finds that he is the one who stayed.
I arrived in Cooperstown...
But I did not arrive at a town.
I arrived at a question.
It had been waiting for centuries.
The streets did not guide me.
They quietly observed my footsteps.
Every window became an eye.
Every door became an examination.
The lake did not reflect the sky.
It reflected my soul.
I looked into the water.
And saw someone I had forgotten.
In Cooperstown...
The stones speak less than the silence.
The trees preserve forgotten secrets.
Time never rushes anyone.
Here...
Architecture is not walls.
It is memory built from stone.
Windows are not only for light.
They contemplate themselves.
Every house is waiting for someone.
Every bench remembers an absence.
Every shadow writes another story.
Had imad walked here...
He would not search for the Castle.
He would search for himself.
For the town is a labyrinth of conscience.
Cooperstown never asks who you are.
It asks instead:
Who have you become?
When I finally departed...
I believed I had left it behind.
Then I discovered the truth.
I was the one who remained there.
