The Subway That Remembers Us
Two strangers on a late train share one glance and many silent stations, and the subway never forgets them.

Imad wrote this subway love story about two strangers on a late New York train. She sits down tired of more than the day, he sits across from her, their eyes meet and retreat, and several stations pass in a silence full of unasked questions until her stop arrives, she hesitates, and neither of them moves.
She entered the train late
Night pressed against the glass
The city moved outside faceless
She sat as if escaping herself
Fatigue fell over her shoulders
Not just the body’s fatigue
But the fatigue of endless questions
He sat across without clear intention
As if the seat chose him
He did not look directly
Yet his presence was undeniable
Like a shadow aware of itself
The train moved with heavy slowness
As if dragging time with it
Each station was another layer
A layer of invisible silence
She lifted her eyes briefly
It was not an ordinary look
But an attempt to cross
From within her to him
Their eyes met then retreated
But something no longer remained
In that brief moment
The order of the world fractured
The train was no longer transport
It became a suspended room
Between two possibilities
Stations passed without words
But silence was not empty
It was filled with inner voices
Questions never asked
Answers afraid to appear
Each of them was writing
Not on paper
But inside the other
A sentence never completed
A story that never began
Her final station approached slowly
As if the train knew the ending
She stood then hesitated briefly
The moment stretched too far
As if time awaited a decision
He looked as if understanding
But understanding did not become action
Everything remained suspended
Between desire and fear
Neither of them moved
But many things moved
Inside the heart
Inside memory
Inside what cannot be seen
She left and vanished in the crowd
As if she never was
But her trace remained
Not in the place
But in the void she left
He remained seated
But the seat was no longer the same
Nor the train
Nor the city
From that moment
The subway began to remember
Every door opening resembled her
Every station a possibility of return
Every face a new question
The place was no longer a place
But a moving memory
A memory without a name
Without an ending
And so…
It was not an ordinary journey
But an unfinished crossing
Between two people
Who never met…
Yet never separated
