Imad wrote this poem about Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA, drawing on the stories of simplicity and frugality told about him. It reads wealth as a responsibility rather than a crown, and argues that in an age when display has become a social currency, respect bought with money ends when the money does.
Not everyone who possesses great wealth becomes imprisoned by it.
Stories told about Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA, have become symbols of simplicity and frugality in leadership.
The world measured people by what they drove,
He measured them by what they left behind.
Others saw wealth as a crown,
He saw it as a responsibility.
He never sought to be the richest man in the room,
He wanted to be the one most faithful to his principles.
Leadership is not a first-class seat,
It is the ability to walk among people without forgetting who you are.
Greatness is not found in the car that carries you,
But in the values you carry within you.
Dignity is not built by palaces,
But by a home where conscience resides.
In an age where display has become a social currency,
He chose to be an exception rather than another imitation.
He understood that whoever buys respect with money,
Will lose it when the money is gone.
But whoever earns it through character,
Possesses a fortune that can never go bankrupt.
Wealth is not what sits in your bank accounts,
It is what remains in your soul when you can afford everything, yet choose not to become a slave to anything.
Gold may dazzle the eyes,
But only humility captures hearts.
Whoever conquers the desire to impress others,
Becomes richer than all the billionaires combined.
A person is not measured by what they own,
But by what they no longer need to prove.
