A Dome Inhabited Only by Absence
Imad walks through a dome built from fear and meets al-Ghazali, Ibn Arabi and Rumi, until the walls fall and only God remains.

Imad wrote this Sufi poem around the Qur'anic verse in which God is closer than the jugular vein, and asks how anyone can build a door for One already within. On the way he hears the hadith on intentions and meets al-Ghazali, Ibn Arabi and Rumi, until the dome falls as a liberation and the poet stands alone before God.
In the beginning… There was no form
There was a meaning in searching for a body
So man built a dome out of his fear
And adorned it with verses he did not fully grasp
Then stood at its gate… stopping passersby
But God… never entered the dome
For the dome was smaller than His presence
Quran يقول: The Quran says:
We are closer to him than his jugular vein”
So how do you build a door… for One already within you?
In the long corridors
Muhammad: I heard the whisper of Muhammad:
Actions are by intentions”
The decorated walls collapsed
Because intention needs no ornament
Al-Ghazali I passed by the shadow of Al-Ghazali
He carried his books… then left them
And said: the path is not in what you read
But in what burned within you
In a corner without light
رأيت Ibn Arabi يبتسمI saw Ibn Arabi smiling
And he said:
My heart has become capable of every form”
Boundaries dissolved between temple and desert
Between faith and wonder
Jalal ad-Din Rumi Then came the voice of Rumi
Not from a book… but from a turning
What you seek… is seeking you”
I felt the dome begin to rotate
And the columns were no longer holding anything
Here… the entire architecture fell
Not as destruction
But as liberation
For God does not dwell in structures
Nor confined in an idea
Nor reduced to a man
In the ruins…
I stood alone
لا طريق مرسوم No شيخ… no interpretation… no mapped path
Only a verse echoing within:
So flee to God”
But where do I flee… if He is everything?
Here I began to understand
That the path is not a line
But a continuous falling into meaning
And that Oneness is not an idea
But the demolition of everything else
If you see a man saying: I am the way
Smile… and walk
And if you see a door closed in God's name
Open your heart… and leave the door
Because God…
Is not behind walls
Nor above domes
But in the moment when all domes collapse
And you remain… with nothing
Except Him
