The Epic of the Balance of Time

Imad wrote this short poem about power and justice as history sees them over long stretches of time. Thrones that looked as solid as mountains become stories in the books of historians, power that forgets the human being slowly loses its meaning, and the poem draws the lesson that states built on dignity endure while those built on fear end up in the archive.

التاريخ لا يرفع صوته كثيراً،History rarely raises its voice,

لكنه يكتب ببطءٍ شديد على جدران الزمن.yet it writes patiently on the walls of time.

الأمم تعتقد أحياناً أن اللحظة هي كل شيء،Nations sometimes believe the moment is everything,

لكن الزمن أوسع من أي لحظة.yet time is wider than any moment.

كم من عروشٍ بدت راسخة كأنها جبل،How many thrones once seemed as solid as mountains,

ثم تحولت إلى حكاية في كتب المؤرخين.then became stories in the books of historians.

ليس لأن أحداً أراد لها السقوط،Not because someone wished for their fall,

بل لأن ميزان التاريخ يبحث دائماً عن توازن جديد.but because the balance of history always seeks a new equilibrium.

فالسلطة التي تنسى الإنسانPower that forgets the human being

تفقد ببطءٍ معناها. slowly loses its meaning.

والقوة التي لا يحرسها العدلStrength not guarded by justice

تتعب من حمل نفسها.eventually grows tired of carrying itself.

التاريخ لا ينتقم،History does not seek revenge,

لكنه يصحّح المسار بصبرٍ طويل. yet it corrects the course with long patience.

سنواتٌ تمرYears pass

تبدو فيها الموازين ثابتة،when balances seem immovable,

ثم فجأة يكتشف العالمand suddenly the world discovers

أن ما كان يبدو أبدياًthat what seemed eternal

لم يكن سوى فصلٍ في رواية أطول.was only a chapter in a longer story.

هكذا تتقدم الحضارات،Thus civilizations move forward,

لا بضجيج الشعاراتnot by the noise of slogans

بل بنضج التجربة الإنسانية.but by the maturation of human experience.

وفي نهاية المطافAnd in the end

يبقى درسٌ واحد يتكرر عبر القرون:one lesson repeats through centuries:

أن الدول التي تبني قوتها على الكرامة والعدلthat states built upon dignity and justice

تجد طريقها إلى البقاء.find their path to endurance.

أما التي تبني سلطانها على الخوفwhile those built upon fear

فتدخل مع الوقتslowly enter

أرشيف الزمن…the archive of time…

حيث تتحول السلطةwhere power itself

إلى مجرد ذكرىbecomes only a memory

في كتاب التاريخ.in the book of history.
