Two Languages, One Heart
لغتان وقلب واحد
He learns her name before her language, and together they invent a third language that is neither Arabic nor English.

Imad wrote this poem on love across languages, about two strangers who meet on a street that speaks every tongue. He mispronounces, she laughs with him rather than at him, they talk in broken sentences in a small café, and out of written words and drawn meanings they invent a third language that belongs to neither of them alone.
لم يكن اللقاء صدفة بسيطة It was not a simple coincidence
كان كأن مدينتين اصطدمتا بهدوء It was like two cities colliding softly
في شارعٍ يتكلم بكل اللغات On a street speaking every language
وكان كل واحدٍ منهما غريبًا And each of them was a stranger
لكن الغربة هنا لم تكن حاجزًا Yet here, strangeness was not a barrier
بل كانت بداية It was a beginning
نظر إليها… ولم يفهم كلماتها He looked at her… and did not understand her words
لكنّه فهم حضورها But he understood her presence
وكان ذلك كافيًا ليبقى And that was enough for him to stay
ابتسمت… حين أخطأ في النطق She smiled… when he mispronounced
ولم تضحك عليه She did not laugh at him
بل ضحكت معه She laughed with him
وهنا بدأ الجسر الأول And there, the first bridge began
كان الحديث متكسّرًا Conversation was fragmented
جملٌ ناقصة Sentences incomplete
كلماتٌ ضائعة Words misplaced
لكن المشاعر… كانت كاملة But the feelings… were complete
كانت العيون تترجم The eyes translated
وكان الصمت يشرح And silence explained
وكان القلب يوقّع And the heart signed
تعلّم اسمها قبل لغتها He learned her name before her language
وحفظ نبرة صوتها He memorized the tone of her voice
قبل أن يفهم معناها Before understanding its meaning
كان يناديها He called her
كأن الاسم صلاة As if her name were a prayer
تُقال دون ترجمة Spoken without translation
جلسا في مقهى صغير They sat in a small café
قريب… لكنه بعيد عن العالم Close… yet far from the world
كانت تشرح She explained
وكان يحاول أن يفهم And he tried to understand
لكن الحقيقة But the truth
أنهما كانا يفهمان أكثر مما يظنان Is that they understood more than they thought
كانت تكتب له الكلمات She wrote words for him
ويرسم لها المعاني And he drew meanings for her
كانا يخترعان لغة ثالثة They were inventing a third language
ليست عربية Not Arabic
وليست إنكليزية Not Englishبل لغة بين القلبين But a language between hearts
في كل لقاء In every meeting
كان الخطأ أقل Mistakes became fewer
لكن الشغف أكبر But the passion greater
لم يعودا يخافان الخطأ They no longer feared mistakes
بل يخافان الصمت They feared silence instead
الصمت الذي لا يحمل شعورًا The silence without feeling
تعلّم كيف يقول أحبك He learned how to say “I love you”
لكنّه قالها بطريقة مختلفة But he said it differently
قالها بعينيه He said it with his eyes
وبانتظاره الطويل And with his long waiting
وبحضوره الصادق And his honest presence
وهي… فهمت قبل أن تُقال And she… understood before it was spoken
لأن الحب لا يحتاج ترجمة Because love needs no translation
ولا يحتاج قاموسًا Nor a dictionary
ولا يحتاج قواعد Nor rulesفي نهاية ذلك اليوم الطويل At the end of that long day
لم يصبحا متشابهين They did not become identical
لم تذُب لغته في لغتها His language did not dissolve into hers
ولا اختفت المسافات Nor did distances disappear
لكن شيئًا أعمق حدث But something deeper happened
أصبح بينهما طريق A path formed between them
ليس من كلمات Not made of words
بل من ثقة But of trust
من ضحكات Of laughter
من أخطاء جميلة Of beautiful mistakes
أصبح كل واحدٍ منهما Each of them became
وطنًا للآخر A homeland for the other
حين تضيع الكلمات When words are lost
وحين تعجز الجمل When sentences fail
وهنا الحقيقة And here is the truth
أن اللغة قد تفصل الناس Language may separate people
لكن القلب… يجمعهم But the heart… unites them
أن الحروف قد تخون Letters may betray
لكن الشعور لا يكذب But feeling never lies
لغتان… نعم Two languages… yes
لكن قلبٌ واحد But one heart
ينبض بلغته الخاصة Beating in its own language
لغة لا تُكتب A language not written
ولا تُترجم Nor translated
بل تُعاش But lived
