The Epic of Steven Pinker in New York
Imad imagines Manhattan's towers asking Steven Pinker how tall the human mind is, and falling silent at his answer.

Imad wrote this epic on Steven Pinker in New York, imagining the thinker of language, mind and history on stage in the city on the first of September 2026. A hall of engineers, doctors, students and philosophers hears Darwin, Newton and neuroscience in his words, and in a dreamlike moment the towers of Manhattan ask him how tall the human mind is.
Prelude
In an age when noise has become louder than wisdom,
And screens have become faster than reflection,
And slogans have multiplied beyond ideas,
Sometimes a man appears carrying neither sword nor army,
But carrying a question.
That is Steven Pinker.
One of the most influential thinkers of our age in language, mind, and history.
And in a city that never sleeps,
A city that lives at the speed of light,
He will stand on stage to speak about the greatest mystery humanity has ever known:
The human mind itself.
On the first of September, 2026,
New York was not welcoming a lecturer.
It was welcoming a storm of ideas.
The man emerged from Manhattan's white mist,
Like a page torn from an ancient book.
His silver hair floated above him
Like thousands of theories
Still arguing in the air.
Behind him rose the skyscrapers.
Towers of steel and glass.
Yet for a brief moment they seemed
Shorter than an idea.
For the city that built some of the tallest towers on Earth
Knows very well
That ideas built the towers first.
The hall filled with people.
Engineers.
Doctors.
Students.
Philosophers.
And lovers of impossible questions.
They all sat
Waiting for the man who spent his life
Disassembling the human mind
The way an archaeologist
Uncovers a city buried beneath the sands.
When the stage lights came on,
New York itself seemed to feel
As if standing before a mirror.
For every street within it is an idea.
And every bridge a theory.
And every skyscraper a question rising toward the sky.
The talk began.
Yet the words were not merely words.
They were caravans of history.
Darwin was there.
Newton was there.
Neuroscience was there.
Language was there.
And humanity itself
Sat in the front row
Trying to understand itself.
The sentences rose
Like invisible stairways.
Climbing from the earth
Toward the unknown.
And in a moment of intellectual hallucination,
The towers of Manhattan began to speak.
They asked him:
How tall is the human mind?
He smiled.
As though the question were thousands of years old.
Then he answered:
The mind is not measured in meters.
Nor in feet.
Nor by the number of floors.
The mind is measured
By its ability to transcend its limits.
Then the towers fell silent.
Because they understood
That the highest summit in the world
Is not made of steel.
But of thought.
And when the evening ended,
People stepped out into the streets of Times Square.
Yet the city was no longer the same.
The light seemed deeper.
The sky seemed wider.
And the questions more beautiful.
For some men do not change the world through power.
They change it with an idea.
And some lectures do not end at the theater doors.
They begin there.
