A Quarter of Luminous Shadows: A Poem About Williamsburg
Imad walks through Williamsburg and reads its hats, coats and modest houses as an architecture of devotion, then asks what its walls keep out.

Imad wrote this poem about Williamsburg, a New York neighborhood where black hats, long coats and modest houses carry an old tradition through every street. He reads its people and buildings as an architecture of faith and commitment. Then, as an architect, he asks whether an identity this solid can open a window to the city around it without losing itself.
In Williamsburg… silence begins to speak.
Not just a neighborhood… but time walking.
The streets here are not roads…
But passages between centuries.
The black hats are not clothing…
But small domes walking above heads.
The long coats are not fabric…
But walls of tradition that do not fall.
In this quarter…
Time does not flow.
It repeats.
Every morning resembles an ancient prayer.
And every window preserves what is unsaid.
I saw the children…
Wearing the future… as if it were the past.
And I saw the men…
Walking like columns of faith.
The women here…
Weave light in silence.
And the houses are modest…
Yet heavy with meaning.
This neighborhood…
Is not built of stone alone.
But by devotion.
Every corner says: we are here.
From a time… never broken.
But the question…
Is not in existence.
But in separation.
When the neighborhood closes upon itself…
Does it protect its soul?
Or fears to dissolve?
Architecture here is clear…
Precise boundaries.
Solid identity.
But identity…
If it does not breathe…
Becomes another wall.
O Williamsburg…
A neighborhood walking inside New York…
Like an island within an island.
You teach us…
That humans can build their own time.
But we also ask…
Can this time…
Open a window?
Not to lose itself…
But to see the other… without fear?
Conclusion
A neighborhood is not what is built…
But how it lives.
Identity is not a wall…
But a bridge, if it wishes to endure.
