A Viking helmet on a player's head sends Imad back to burned towns and asks why one invader becomes an explorer and another a terror.

Imad wrote this essay in verse on double standards in history, prompted by a Viking helmet worn by a player and the cheers it drew. He recalls the dragon-prowed ships, the towns that woke to smoke and the encounter in Al-Andalus, and asks why one conqueror becomes a brave explorer in one story and a symbol of terror in another.

It was not a helmet on a player's head that caught my attention.

It was the memory awakened beneath it.

Helmets are not forged from iron alone.

They are forged from the stories they carry.

Every symbol that survives time.

Carries a question with it.

Not only about the past.

But about the present as well.

When the hero wears the Viking helmet.

The crowd erupts with excitement.

But history hears more than applause.

It remembers the ships as well.

It remembers the cities that awoke to smoke.

It remembers the bells that fell silent.

It remembers mosques and monasteries alike.

It remembers the children who never knew why wars began.

Victims never choose the names of those who invade them.

Once, the men of the North sailed.

Carrying the sea in their eyes.

And the cold within their hearts.

With ships shaped like dragons.

They believed they were searching for glory.

Yet glory, when separated from justice.

Becomes fear.

And heroism becomes a bloodstained memory.

In Al-Andalus.

The confrontation was not between one sea and another.

Nor between North and South.

It was between two visions of the world.

One that saw power as an end in itself.

And another that believed power without order cannot build civilization.

History is neither black nor white.

Yet it does not forget blood.

Nor the ashes.

Nor the mothers who waited for sons that never returned.

The remarkable thing is not the Viking helmet.

It is the way we choose to read it.

Some symbols enter museums.

Then emerge as national heroes.

While others are denied even a place in memory.

Not because history is different.

But because the scale of judgment is different.

A conqueror may become a brave explorer in one narrative.

Yet remain a symbol of terror in another.

Here, the question is no longer who was stronger.

But who possesses the power to write memory.

Justice knows no language.

No race.

No continent.

Nor the color of a helmet.

Blood loses its name the moment it is spilled.

And tears carry no nationality.

If the past is to be read.

Let it be read with one measure.

If history is to be judged.

Let the judgment be upon the deed.

Not upon the identity of the one who committed it.

Civilizations do not collapse because their stories differ.

They collapse when their standards differ.

When blood is called heroism here.

And a crime there.

History transforms from a witness to truth.

Into a writer of legends.

History does not need more heroes.

It needs more fairness.

Symbols may change.

But principles should not.

Whoever judges the past with two scales.

Will never understand the future.

Justice does not stand with a helmet.

Nor to a banner.

It stands with the human being.

When the standard becomes one.

History begins, for the first time, to tell the truth.
