The story of Simeon, a shepherd from northern Syria born around AD 390 who lived for years on top of a pillar, and of the great church built around that pillar after his death: four basilicas around an octagon, a pilgrimage center, later a fortress, and today a ruin among the Ancient Villages of Northern Syria.
